Job Description

Senior EHS Specialist implements OSTA initiatives in Health and Safety Environmental Affairs and other general areas as designated. They assist in the development and review of policies and practices for OSTA and/or its facilities and works with Legal Operations and site management to facilitate compliance with company policies and applicable laws and regulations.

Job Duties

  • Oversees occupational health and safety matters related to facility personnel.

  • Develops and maintains a systematic occupational health and safety management program to facilitate:

  • Identification of occupational health and safety hazards.

  • Utilization of physical safeguards and employee personal protective equipment to control such hazards.

  • Training of employees in good health and safety management practices.

  • Investigation of accidents and occupational injuries and illnesses.

  • Compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation.

  • Evaluates deficiencies.

  • Establishes and implements written policies and procedures; audits to assess and ensure compliance with policies and procedures; and provides requisite training.

  • Manages general compliance matters and projects as necessary and provides assistance to ensure compliance with relevant policies and other federal laws relating to health and safety.

  • Primary contact for the development of the site's Health and Safety Management System to attain ISO 45001 certification.

  • Oversees environmental matters related to Olympus facilities and products.

  • Develops and maintains a systematicenvironmental management program to facilitate:

  • Assessment of environmental impacts of products facilities and operations.

  • Engagement of Olympus management and staff in activities related to reducing environmental impacts.

  • Compliance with applicable environmental legislation.

  • Serves as a contact for Olympus regarding Olympus products and facility related environmental compliance issues.

  • Monitors environmental laws that impact Olympus products and operations.

  • Evaluates deficiencies in this area.

  • Establishes and implements written policies and procedures.

  • Audits to assess and ensure compliance with policies and procedures; provides requisite training.

  • Primary contact for the site's Environmental Management System to attain ISO 14001:2015 certification.

  • Develop compliance and other identified training as necessary.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in an applicable scientific discipline (such as Environmental Engineering or Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety))

  • Minimum 5 years' experience dealing with EHS policy and compliance issues.

  • Ability to obtain a professional credential such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or equivalent within two years.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety preferred.

  • Working knowledge of federal state and local laws related to health and safety and environmental protection.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan and execute various projects simultaneously.

  • Analytical ability and knowledge of business processes.

  • Ability to create and deliver effective training materials.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows Office Suite software.
