Allina Health Laboratory provides a full menu of essential and specialized laboratory services to customers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. We provide reference laboratory services to four major metropolitan hospitals, 13 regional hospitals, including Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth (Plymouth), 59+ Allina Health clinics, 40+ hospital-based clinics and outpatient surgery centers. As a local, accessible resource, we provide clinical and anatomic pathology services that support customers diagnostic needs.

Customer service in lab reception.
- Greets patients, performs check-in process, and is responsive to questions and patient needs.
Evaluates patient orders for completeness and follows up as needed.
Effectively and accurately manages patient orders to ensure adherence to regulatory and billing requirements.
Performs scheduling, ordering and releasing as appropriate in Electronic Medical Record, following policies and procedures.
Specimen collection and phlebotomy supply maintenance.
Reviews orders and verifies patient identification.
Demonstrates the ability to assess and react effectively to unique patient needs.
Instructs patients accurately on procedures and protocols.
Identifies and uses appropriate collection method to obtain samples for testing (venipuncture or capillary puncture).
Collects samples and labels specimens correctly following all procedures and protocols.
Evaluates acceptability of specimens
Stocks, rotates and requests phlebotomy supplies (as assigned) on a regular basis to ensure proper availability in the work area.
Assists with SOP development and training in work area.
Follows all federal regulations including CAP, OSHA, COLA, CLIA, and HIPAA.
Specimen Processing and testing
Performs processing of specimens with strict adherence to the quality control and quality assurance policies of AHL and in accordance with federal regulations (CLIA, CAP, HIPPA, etc.).
Performs waived testing, as assigned.
Maintain required safety, education, and competency requirements
Completes required annual CEU for job position per AHL policy.
Completes training and competency requirements in a timely manner.
Follows and demonstrates understanding of policies & procedures in daily work.
Other Duties as assigned
Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Performs various clerical duties.
Assists with creation of staff desk assignment schedule, as directed.
Attends and participates in department and other meetings, as assigned.
Acts as a student preceptor.
Trains and provides oversight of new staff/students.
May work independently with additional responsibilities in another non-lab area
Minimum High School diploma or GED.
Prefer specific training in phlebotomy, including internship, in a healthcare field.
For diplomas earned outside of the United States a record of diploma/transcript equivalency evaluation by a foreign credentialing agency must be provided at time of hire.
Utilize communication and customer service skills in order to positively impact patient experience.
Read and understand oral and written instructions and follow established written policies and procedures.
Work independently and function effectively in a team setting.
Demonstrate computer skills to navigate within information system.
Prioritize and organize tasks/ assignments and multitask as appropriate, with attention to detail.
Bend, stoop and stand frequently.
A minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience preferred
Combination of day and evening shifts, dictated by needs of the department
Various shift start times- start times vary from 5a to 6p
2 out of 4 weekends per schedule period
This is a Float Pool position, will float to various hospitals in the North Region (Coon Rapids, Fridley, Cambridge and Buffalo, MN)
