RFA Engineering Mechanical Engineer - Validation of Off-Highway Equipment in Eden Praire, Minnesota

RFA Engineering (www.rfamec.com) is seeking a growth oriented Validation (R&D) Engineer that wants to join our clients team at their facility in Sioux Falls, SD. The selected candidate will build and validate innovative off-highway equipment from conceptual ideas through testing evaluations for rapid product development. The candidate will also work to ensure new designs meet the needs of manufacturing, sales, dealers, and end-users for all of our clients products.

This is a full time position with an opportunity for direct hire by our customer.

Job Description

  • Manage detailed conclusions from accelerated product development testing outcomes and suggest improvements as needed.

  • Plan, coordinate, conduct, and oversee full machine evaluations and field test activities.

  • Responsible for completing documentation through all phases of planning, execution, and reporting to engineering.

  • Designs and directs engineering and technical personnel in fabrication of testing and test control apparatus and equipment.

  • Manage multiple aspects of new products and project enhancement goals with a sharp focus for reliability, durability endurance testing for product performance, innovation development time and project and process improvements and consistently communicate results to the leadership team.

  • Verify design inputs correlate to design intent within the constraints of cost, materials, and manufacturing capabilities.

  • Directs and exercises control over operational, functional, and performance phases of tests.

  • Work closely with Materials and Manufacturing departments to reduce fabrication and assembly errors, improve communication on key components and evaluate and suggest improvements to the production manufacturing process.

  • Become proficient in the safe operation and maintenance of machinery to aid in design reviews, tests, evaluations, and trouble shooting.

  • May use data acquisition equipment to measure hydraulic and pressures, temperatures throughout the machine, mechanical stresses in structures, and to gather CAN bus information.

  • Report test results in a timely and clear manner; help in the definition and execution of any follow up testing.

  • Accountable for scheduling of work performed in the testing facility and for R&D project build completions, and direct the work of the Testing area team members with supervisor responsibilities.

Requirements

  • B.S. Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering.

  • 7+ years of machine design and validation experience required.

  • Focus on complete machine fabrication and assembly product validation, techniques and procedures.

  • Data acquisition experience for structural and hydraulic equipment, with test report process documentation.

  • Ability to work with others in a professional manner while unsupervised.

  • Strong technical report writing skills.

  • A working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and powertrain systems.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Experience in working in a team environment and soliciting cooperation when needed.

  • Ability to assemble design prototypes, implement design changes, and facilitate issue resolution within described timeframes.
