Principal Materials Engineer for Medtronic, Inc located in Fridley, MN develops polymeric materials technology solutions for component and device level designs for implantable products. Coordinate research and product development projects as a subject matter expert in the area of polymer materials for medical devices. Coordinate provided funding and resources to develop plans and strategies and execute tasks to evaluate new material technologies for medical devices. Develop design guidance for materials and drug formulations to be used in targeted drug delivery device. Serve as a technical resource across the business and partner with peers to develop novel material technology solutions. Provide engineering expertise to identify, develop and optimize polymer biomaterials to include silicones and polyurethanes for implantable neurostimulators, infusion systems, and their delivery tools. Plan and conduct DOE (Design of Experiments). Perform chemical and physical characterizations using methods to include Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Mass Spectroscopy (MS), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) and tensile tests. Analyze results statistically using six-sigma and lean design tools. Develop predictive models and transfer functions between material chemistry, properties and device performance attributes. Write specifications to support designs and processes and perform failure analysis investigations. Evaluate durability of materials, influences of material chemistry, manufacturing, use conditions, and biological, chemical, and pharmaceutical exposures on materials. Prepare various regulatory submission ready documentation per FDA 21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485 regulations. Principal Materials Engineer- Polymers for Medtronic, Inc., located in Fridley, MN.
