The person hired for the position of Materials Scientist will be responsible for the development and characterization of new ceramic fiber materials as part of on-going commercialization programs within the Advanced Materials Division.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Leads or supports the development of new ceramic oxide fiber materials and processes, including commercialization, in the industrial market space.
Explore emerging technologies to broaden 3M’s ceramic fiber product portfolio
Develop test methods and characterize development materials to meet customer requirements
Works with the business team to identify new product and market opportunities for 3M
Collaborates with quality, business, and manufacturing for successful commercialization of new products
Involved in literature and patent searches, scout for new technologies and actively develop patentable inventions
Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Minimum two (2) years of combined experience in materials development experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Master's degree in Materials Science, Ceramic Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
Experience with fiber development, fiber handling or textile materials
Demonstrated ability to lead development programs
Interest and capability to explore new areas outside of direct expertise
Location: Maplewood, MN
Travel: May include up to 10% travel
Relocation: Is authorized

Responsibilities of this position may include direct and/or indirect physical or logical access to information, systems, technologies subjected to the regulations/compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.
