Here, you go.Job Summary:The person hired for the position of Application EngineerAdditive Manufacturing will support new product development for 3Ms Advanced Materials Division. The candidate will work closely across functions to develop new-to-the-world products and applications for additive manufacturing/3D printing, focused specifically on filled thermoplastic composites. The candidate will be the teams expert on customer applications, processes and product requirements and serve as the primary technical contact to customers, leveraging their expertise in extrusion-based Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) and/or powder-based sintering additive technologies. They will coordinate and lead customer field trials and evaluate competition to help develop effective value propositions. The candidate will support development of customer collateral and deliver training on site and via e-media. They will demonstrate fluency in industry standards, practices, and regulations and become involved with industry bodies that set such standards, as required.For additional business group/division/product information, please visit: 3M Advanced MaterialsThis position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:As a member of a new business development team, serve as the key technical customer contact providing expertise for new product development and product support in additive manufacturing of thermoplastic composite and specialty filled (ceramics and additives) materials. This includes, but is not limited to:Leading field trials, analyzing and interpreting results, and reporting out key learningsTraining customers on product use by in-person visits and e-media development and deploymentDeveloping and replicating new applications world wideProviding application support to resolve any issuesLead and perform all aspects of application development and documentation from ideation through technical feasibility, development, test, and validation.Coordinate internal technical testing to better understand product performance including competitive comparisonsCoordinate testing and development projects with external industry partners. Research, evaluate and recommend potential partners for such projects.Work with the marketing team to build compelling value propositions for effective commercializationHarness insights from market and customers processes to help recommend next generation products and applicationsDemonstrate presence and awareness of pending changes and/or additions to industry standards, practices and regulations including development of new industry standards, best practice guidelines, or regulations.Basic Qualifications:Possess a bachelors degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institutionMinimum two (2) years of combined experience providing technical support to customers in a technical sales and/or application engineering role (private, public, government or military)Minimum two (2) years of work experience with additive manufacturing technologies that includes hands-on experience with industrial Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) and/or laser sintering processes (private, public, government or military)Preferred Qualifications:Bachelors degree or higher in Composite Materials Engineering, Materials Science or related discipline from an accredited institutionDemonstrated understanding of the Additive Manufacturing industry and the most relevant industry leaders for materials and technologiesDeep technical knowledge of filled and reinforced composite materials, particularly thermoplastic matrix materialsExperience in new product
