University of Minnesota Physicians Director of Medical School Pathology Education (Academic, Tenure Track, or Tenured) in Minneapolis, Minnesota

As the multi-specialty group practice for the faculty of the University of Minnesota Medical School, University of Minnesota Physicians has more than 950 physicians and 1,600 health professionals, providing clinical care in over 100 specialty and sub-specialty areas. Qualifications

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology of the University of Minnesota Medical School seeks a fulltime experienced ABP certified/eligible pathologist with a primary interest in medical student education. Board certification and a minimum of five years of experience is preferred, however, candidates at an early stage in their career will be considered. Academic rank, track, compensation and appointment type will be based on qualifications and experience. Minimum requirements are an M.D or equivalent degree, eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Minnesota, board certified or board eligible in AP or AP/CP, completion of an ACGME-accredited pathology residency training and fellowship or significant experience in a pathology specialty area.

About the Job

Clinical care responsibilities, on-call duties, resident and fellow supervision and conferences are shared with other members of the department.

Candidates must have demonstrated ability in teaching and in scholarly productivity. This position will direct the first year medical student pathology course, Principles in Pathology, a required 6 week course given in the last semester of the first year of medical school as well as serve as the Pathology Thread Director for all Human Health and Disease blocks of the second year of the medical school curriculum. Additional responsibilities will include co-directing the summer internship in pathology (an 8 week experience for 4 medical students), co-directing the post-sophomore fellowship in pathology, serve as a member of the Resident and Fellowship Committee, serve on the Medical School’s Scientific Foundations Committee (includes first and second year course directors), supervise the pathology lab manager/course coordinator and oversee the pathology medical student education budget.

Academic time will be used to pursue scholarly work in the candidate’s area of specialty/research expertise with a goal of developing collaborative or independent external funded research.

Preferred candidates will be active in their national organizations and have experience in fostering an academic environment for medical students, residents, fellows and faculty.
