The Department Medicine, Division of Pulmonology at the University of Minnesota is seeking full time board certified/eligible Pulmonary/Critical Care Physician at the Assistant Professor rank.
About the Appointment:
The Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep (PACCS) Division is currently recruiting a research-oriented tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty member to build our physician-scientist investigative activities. Rank will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
Responsibilities include the development of an independent, extramurally funded research program; participation in the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows, clinical practice through UMPhysicians, and participation in service activities on behalf of the department, the Medical school, and your profession.
The position will include 75% protected time to focus on research efforts that will engage with existing faculty expertise and interest, including faculty across Divisions of the Department of Medicine and in other Departments, including the basic sciences.
We seek applicants from any of the following areas: Lung Fibrosis; Endothelial Biology; Lung Inflammation; Epithelial Biology; Lung Injury, Repair and Regeneration; Clinical Trials in Critical Care.
Clinical responsibilities will include a maximum 25% clinical effort, including outpatient clinical and inpatient attending time as needed by the PACCS Division.
In addition to inpatient and outpatient care, the physician will be expected to perform quality assurance and improvement; medical administration; professional recruitment; utilization review; participation in site, CSU, and hospital medical staff meetings; planning and marketing of your services.
The successful candidate will participate in research projects and other academic/scholarly activities either as a collaborator or independent researcher and participate in faculty development activities tailored to the candidate's career interests and goals.
This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE)
Faculty will be active in their national organizations and foster an academic environment for medical students, residents and faculty.
About the Division:
The Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep (PACCS) Division is comprised of over 30 full-time University-based faculty and 28 physician faculty at three affiliated teaching hospitals. The faculty provide broad expertise, diverse clinical practice and fellowship training at four hospitals. PACCS proudly features nationally-recognized programs in Interstitial Lung Disease and Lung Transplantation, Critical Care Medicine, Cystic Fibrosis, Interventional Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine. With generous support from the NIH, VA Research Service, American Lung Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and several other private foundations, we are committed to providing our students the best graduate and postgraduate education in lung science available today. The division is expanding with major nw investments from the Medical School and Academic Health Center. Training is offered in Lung Cell and Molecular Biology, Bioengineering and Clinical Trials, with joint Masters and PhD programs. We strive to find cures for Acute Lung Injury, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension and other deadly lung diseases as we continuously improve current preventive strategies and treatment modalities.
Graduate of an accredited ACGME internal medicine residency
Board certified with ABIM in Internal Medicine and board certified/eligible in both Pulmonary and Critical Care
Licensed or ability to obtain Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Licensure.
Ability to obtain/maintain DEA certification in the State of Minnesota
Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges
Ability to receive work authorization in the United States from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and maintain legal status according to the requirements of VISA category while in the United States.

Current rank of Associate Professor or relatively senior Assistant Professor preferred.
Current NIH RPG or equivalent movable support preferred; exceptional senior NIH K awardee candidates also would be considered.
