The Gastroenterology Section of the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) is seeking an enthusiastic physician scientist that is board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology. The successful candidate will have full salary support and substantial protected time for research activities. Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to join our internationally recognized Center for Care Delivery and Outcomes Research (CCDOR), a VA HSR&D Center of Innovation with a large, experienced, cadre of clinical investigators, internal statistics and data management expertise, and extensive research support infrastructure. Membership in the University of Minnesota Comprehensive Cancer Center is also available. Key duties include diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with gastrointestinal diseases according to evidenced based methods and techniques. The ideal candidate should be proficient at routine GI procedures such as: colonoscopy, EGD and capsule endoscopy, and its associated procedures. The incumbent will have an academic position at the University of Minnesota and participate in educational program for gastroenterology fellows, medical residents and medical students. The incumbent will also provide outpatient and inpatient consultation and management of Gastroenterology patients as well as provide teaching and supervisory oversight of the trainees. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
