In-Vitro Lab Tech I

  • Minneapolis, MN (North Metro)

  • Temporary to Hire

  • $18/hr dependent on experience (raise to $20 and conversion to permanent employment after 3 months)

Summary: Facilitates the execution of sample preparation and in vitro testing by performing preparation of devices or chemical samples, standard extractions, solution preparation, cell production and completion of laboratory assays according to SOPs and protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Maintains knowledge of applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in order to successfully perform job duties, and GLP and ISO regulations in order to implement appropriate regulations as they apply to the non-clinical research environment and individual protocols.

  • Completes routine procedures according to study protocols including cytotoxicity tests, hemocompatibility tests, and, with close supervision, genotoxicology tests.

  • Assists with cell production, preparation of media/reagents, maintaining lab supplies, daily monitoring of equipment, and scheduling the lab workload.

  • Conducts sample preparation for Sponsor materials as directed by study protocol for in vivo and in vitro studies.

  • Performs the extraction process on prepared samples in accordance to ISO, USP and/or JMHLW regulations as directed by study protocol for biocompatibility assays.

  • Performs the following laboratory techniques: sterile/aseptic technique, spectrophotometry, dilutions, mammalian and bacterial cell culture, fluorescent and light microscopy, and pipetting techniques.

  • Receives and logs Sponsor materials for testing.

  • Completes chain of custody documentation for test article tracking.

  • Operates, cleans and maintains incubators, autoclaves, hoods, and other equipment routinely utilized.

  • Other Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Prepares and maintains sterile glassware for the sample preparation process. Processes glassware through washer, autoclave and depyrogenation oven as needed.

  • Maintains an efficient and clean work area by organizing and re-stocking procedure carts and sample preparation as needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or related scientific field is required.

  • Experience in a GLP laboratory setting preferred.

  • Basic mathematical knowledge is essential for surface area/volume ratio calculations that are part of the sample preparation process.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
