Lab Technical Services Coordinator (210142) SUMMARY We are currently seeking a Lab Technical Services Coordinator to join our Specim Processing team. This full time role will work evenings.. This role is a 12-month temporary benefited position with potential for extension. The role of the technical services coordinator is to provide excellent customer service. Duties include answering incoming phone calls, making outgoing phone calls for critical values and other specimen rejection reasons, completing the steps necessary to add testing to already collected specimens, and monitoring pending test lists for timeliness of completion RESPONSIBILITIES Core Laboratory Answers incoming phone calls with the expectation to respond appropriately to external and internal customers needs/issues without transferring the phone calls to another section of the laboratory. This will require coordination with all sections of the laboratory and may require a return call for resolution Call/page all critical values to the provider, and complete the documentation of all calls in the electronic health record Utilization of the electronic health record and the laboratory information system to efficiently complete add-on test requests, or to confer with the ordering provider if the add-on tests cannot be completed Call all specimen rejection problems to the provider, including all affected specimens for that collection period Monitors the core lab pending logs and communicates to the technical staff to ensure testing is not delayed Operating laboratory equipment as assigned by management after proper training Other duties as assigned but only after applicable training Anatomic Pathology Answers incoming phone calls with the expectation to respond appropriately to external and internal customers needs/issues without transferring the phone calls to another section of the laboratory. This will require coordination with all sections of the laboratory and may require a return call for resolution Answers the door and signs for all courier deliveries and pickups Maintains and updates our Neuromuscular client database Accessions specimens according to standard procedures utilizing the laboratory and hospital information systems. When missing required information for accessioning they will contact the client who submitted the specimen. This person will label specimens and order documents using proper patient identification techniques Performs administrative support work including, but not limited to pre-printing glass slides, maintaining supplies, assisting with inventory, and filing paperwork, slides, grids and blocks Performs pathology send-outs to reference laboratories Supports quality improvement initiatives and lean processes Other duties as assigned for which they have received applicable training and supervisor approval to perform Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in Arts or Science or equivalent Completion of a Laboratory Technician training program approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) -OR- An approved equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in a science related field as approved by the administrative director One year of experience in the laboratory and One year of experience in customer service skills Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities: Customer Service skills License/Certifications: Core Laboratory: Those hired with an Associate's Degree must be certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP), Clinical Laboratory Technician CLT (NCA), through written examination or approved equivalent Anatomic Pathology: Those hired with an Associate's Degree must be certified as a Histology Technician (HT, ASCP) through written examination or approved equivalent EEO/Disability/Veteran employer.
