Department Pathology Minneapolis, MN, USA DOQ Salary Full Time The Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI) has a current opening for an experienced Medical Technologist to support the research being conducted by Fred Apple, PhD at Hennepin Healthcare's HCMC. POSITION SUMMARY: Effectively and safely performs routine and special complex laboratory tests, procedures, and examinations. Perform phlebotomies and process blood and urine specimens. Perform specimen processing/storage/shipping functions. Perform data entry and informed consent. Prepares specimens for qualitative and quantitative analysis. Coordinate biomarker research studies. Performs routine instrument checks and maintenance. Maintains inventory of reagents, media, and other lab supplies. Transports collected specimens from sites on campus and off campus when needed. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Perform phlebotomy Process blood and urine specimens Perform specimen collection and specimen processing Process blood and other body fluid (e.g. urine) specimens on site, including centrifuging, aliquoting, and storing specimens in freezer or liquid nitrogen as specified Measure and record specimen volumes, and catalog specimen inventory Perform specimen shipping/receiving functions. Package and transport (via courier or shipping) specimens to collaborating groups Accept and ship specimens to collaborators Effectively and safely performs routine and special complex laboratory tests, procedures, and examinations. Records lab results according to laboratory procedures, reviewing for abnormal or unusual results Reviews test results for completeness and accuracy May assist in the writing of technical reports and articles for publication Posts and files results of laboratory tests Actively evaluate and explore new and different test procedures in research or data interpretation Records and statistically evaluates quality control tests and quality assurance monitoring Coordinate biomarker research studies Assume daily responsibility for biomarker research studies assigned. Organize studies to ensure reporting requirements are met Weekly correspondence with study Sponsor(s) on the study progress Assure study protocols are followed Work with manager/assistant manager to ensure study is sufficiently staffed. Report any pertinent study issues to PI/manager/assistant manager in a timely manner. Review data generated for studies to ensure completeness and quality. Maintain regulatory study binders Prepares specimens for qualitative and quantitative analysis. May prepares and interprets slides for microscopic analysis Identifies and labels all specimens to be retained and saved May prepares special media for culture and susceptibility testing, prepares reagents and indicator solutions according to the established methods and standards. Performs routine instrument checks and maintenance. May operate, conduct performance checks on, calibrate and maintain testing equipment/instrumentation including performing quality control procedures, monitoring results and quality assurance records to assure accuracy and validity of test results. Maintains inventory of reagents, media, and other lab supplies. May assist with ordering supplies. May orient, train or teach, and give work direction to less experienced personnel. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Education/Experience: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be a Bachelor's degree with a Medical Technologist (ASCP) or equivalent registry as a Medical Technologist. Experience in Phlebotomy required.
