Department Pathology Minneapolis, MN, USA DOQ Hourly Full Time The Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI) has a current opening for a full-time Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant to support the research of Fred Apple, PhD of the Cardiac Biomarkers Trial Laboratory (CBTL). This position would work a 9-5, Monday-Friday schedule. POSITION SUMMARY: Perform phlebotomies. Process blood and urine specimens. Perform specimen processing/storage/shipping functions. Perform data entry, informed consent and specimen testing on Point of Care analyzers. Maintain adequate supplies. Maintain specimen repository. Assist research staff with projects. Will conduct research study visits, including all protocol directed visit procedures and data collection, for select projects. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Perform phlebotomy Process blood and urine specimens Perform specimen collection and specimen processing Process blood and other body fluid (e.g., urine) specimens on site, including centrifuging, aliquoting and storing specimens in freezer or liquid nitrogen as specified Measure and record specimen volumes, and catalog specimen inventory. Perform specimen shipping/receiving functions. Package and transport (via courier or shipping) specimens to collaborating groups Accept and ship specimens to collaborators Maintain oversight of an internal specimen bio-repository Catalog specimens, including tracking and pulling for shipping Develop and improve organizational and tracking processes for bio-repository. Perform routine electronic check on refrigerator/freezer temperature systems Maintain adequate supplies and laboratory facilities Maintain an inventory of and order supplies as needed (e.g., Purchases and Expenses log) Unpack laboratory supplies and mark all items with the date received. . Organize and clean laboratory storeroom Upkeep of equipment Perform weekly eyewash checks Assist with and conduct study visit procedures and other protocol directed tasks Create study visits kits and binders Maintain and order kit supplies as appropriate. Assist with completion of CRFs and data entry into the study database. Conduct or assist with study visit procedures and data collection as needed Interviews research subjects, and obtain informed consent. Laboratory result evaluation (i.e., grading abnormalities) and entry into the EDC Maintain accurate and timely study records, including reconciling data queries Be responsive to study sponsors and/or monitors and maintain quality assurance during study conduct Be skilled with necessary software, including but not limited to, EPIC, REDCap, and any programs/software used by study sponsors NON ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Prepare and maintain documents on local laboratory processes and procedures Prepare various general laboratory preventive maintenance procedures Perform miscellaneous laboratory tasks as required EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Education/Experience: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be completion of some college and two (2) years' experience in a related area and/or in research. Bachelor's degree preferred, as is experience in conducting clinical research. A Phlebotomy certificate and one (1) year related phlebotomy and/or laboratory experience in a medical and/or research setting is preferred. Skill, Knowledge and Ability: Requires interaction with a diverse population. Knowledge of medical terminology, the collection and processing of lab specimens, and clinical laboratory procedures, techniques, and standards. Must have the ability to follow standard operating procedures and techniques for a medical laboratory when performing tests.
