These full-time (40 hours/week), paid positions that are 11 weeks in length. We offer housing assistance (for out of state interns), relocation expense reimbursement, and educational and social events throughout the summer. We have summer internship opportunities available across the U.S; including Minnesota, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Arizona, Tennessee and Florida.

A Day in the Life

We have five key areas of engineering internships available that are highlighted below: biomedical, computer, electrical and mechanical

Biomedical Engineering: Under the direction of a more experienced engineer, you will prepare plans for your own work, participate in technical reviews, implement advances in current state-of-the-art technology and identify opportunities for productivity and quality improvement.

Bringing together your interests in medicine and engineering: support research and development of cardiac therapies, the treatment of neurological disorders/dysfunctions, diabetes, pain, surgical robotics, wearables and more.Collecting and analyzing physiologic signals, conduct clinical research with patients, construct hardware and software tools for perform experimental protocols.You may design hardware and software tools that allow the human body's complex signals to be collected and analyzed protocols for collecting clinical data.

Software Engineering: You will use software engineering tools and methods to define requirements and to design, verify, and implement your project.Under the direction of a more experienced engineer, you will prepare plans for your own work, participate in technical reviews, implement advances in current state-of-the-art technology and identify opportunities for productivity and quality improvement.

Within the Software Development Life Cycle, you may use agile methods to explore AI, ML, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, mobile, GUI.

Computer Engineering: You will use software engineering tools and methods to define requirements and to design, verify, and implement your project.Under the direction of a more experienced engineer, you will prepare plans for your own work, participate in technical reviews, implement advances in current state-of-the-art technology and identify opportunities for productivity and quality improvement.You will test for product integration and verification, conducting those tests based on design specifications, and will prepare formal documentation.

Electrical: Under the direction of a more experienced engineer, you will prepare plans for your own work, participate in technical reviews, implement advances in current state-of-the-art technology and identify opportunities for productivity and quality improvement.You may test for product integration and verification, conducting those tests based on design specifications, and will prepare formal documentation.

Work in partnership with engineering teams to use state-of-the-art engineering tools and methods to design/develop products to be used by physicians including pacemakers, and implantable defibrillators, neuro-stimulators, drug pumps and other implantable medical devices. Other positions may work with surgical tools, diabetes pumps, design product components, circuitry, or hardware, from detailed concept descriptions.

Mechanical : You will use mechanical engineering skills to define requirements and to design, verify, and implement your project.Under the direction of a more experienced engineer, you will prepare plans for your own work, participate in technical reviews, implement advances in current state-of-the-art technology and identify opportunities for productivity and quality improvement.You will test for product integration and verification, conducting those tests based on design specifications, and will prepare formal documentation.

ME:Product Design/Development:Work in partnership with engineering teams on mechanical concepts for implantable devices, surgical tools, wearables, and more. Work may include documenting design concepts, evaluating prototypes, performing design tests to evaluate and verify specified results, verifying the functionality of product design and draw conclusions for evaluation.

ME:Manufacturing and Operations: Work in partnership with engineering teams to develop, implement and improve manufacturing methods, systems, and processes to produce a high-quality product which meets design specifications at optimal cost. You may determine requirements of manufacturing operations to specify equipment, fixturing, and process parameters; develop plans to evaluate process repeatability and stability through equipment qualification and process validation; continuously improve manufacturing methods, optimize product performance and reduce manufacturing costs; assist with detailed cost analyses of particular manufacturing changes; provide engineering support to manufacturing operation on a routine basis; address product related issues arising on the production floor; recommend appropriate staffing levels to support manufacturing requirements; define and generate all required documentation in support of manufacturing products and processes, including engineering protocols, reports, manufacturing instructions.

Must Haves:

To be considered for a summer 2021 engineering internship, you must meet the following basic requirements. How you meet these criteria, must be clearly indicated on your resume to be considered for a position.

  • Bachelor’sdegree student with a junior level class standing

  • Working towards a bachelor’sdegree in computer science, computer or software engineering, electrical,biomedical or bioengineering, mechanical or related engineering major

  • A minimum 3.0 out of a 4.0cumulative GPA

  • A recipient of a ThurgoodMarshall College Fund (TMCF) Scholarship

  • Legally authorized to work inthe U.S. on a full-time basis and does not require sponsorship in thefuture for an employment visa

  • Participantsmust be able to participate full time (40 hours/week) as part of ourintern cohort June 7 – August 20, 2021

Nice to Haves:

  • Prior work on projects in ateam environment

  • Relevant academic projectsand/or internship experience helpful
