R&D Engineer II – Electrophysiology Plymouth, MN

As R&D Engineer II , you will be part of our Electrophysiology catheter product development team focused on delivering the future in diagnostic, imaging, and ablation therapy catheters. At our Plymouth, MN site, your work will involve a range of responsibilities including but not limited to design concept development and maturation, requirement development, testing and data analysis, and test method development and validation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilize multidisciplinary engineering knowledge and experience to design and develop new products specific for catheter-based technology.
Plan, schedule and coordinate project tasks and activities.
Effective communication skills with management and cross functional team members.
Utilize structured root cause problem-solving approaches to resolve design and process investigations during development or for on-market products (CAPA).
Expected to become subject matter expert for their given product line in support of interaction with various cross functional groups including Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Design Assurance, etc.
Conceive and build working prototypes.
Run empirical and experimental analysis utilizing various analytical design tools.
Support & help manage R&D Lab activities and personnel including the development and execution of product testing protocols and reports.
Work with outside consultants, vendors, machinists and the medical community.
Support bench / animal testing and clinical evaluations.
Establish product requirements and specifications.
Establish general test methods and model development when applicable.
Identify and mitigate project risks.
Ensure compliance with procedural and documentation requirements of Abbott, FDA , ISO and other regulatory bodies.
Experience and Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering/related degree or equivalent experience
2+ years of engineering experience. Focus in Project Management and Research & Development engineering preferred.
Preferred Qualifications / Education
Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability.
Project (product development/CAPA) leadership and management skills.
Experience designing and testing medical devices.
Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization
Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Ability to multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
Strong organizational skills, as well as attention to detail.
Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering/related degree, or equivalent years of experience
Experience in electrophysiological, mapping & catheter ablation, medical devices.
Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business units model
Strong knowledge in CAD and ability to read and interpret print specifications, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, and general drawing conventions.
Academic GPA: 3.0 plus
