Why Mayo Clinic Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) seeking biomedical equipment technicians to perform preventative maintenance and repair on medical devices and equipment in a healthcare setting. Preferred experience as a biomed tech within a laboratory setting and experience working on laboratory equipment (PMs and repair), optical and ophthalmology equipment.

Preference may be given to biomedical equipment technicians with experience, and years of experience with laboratory environment and/or specifically performing PMs and repair on laboratory/optical equipment. Looking for service technicians with experience servicing Roche chemistry, Sysmex hematology, Instrumentation Laboratory coagulation equipment, Siemens or other urine analyzers, Radiometer blood gas analyzers, or other core chemistry, hematology or coagulation laboratory instruments. Experience servicing other sophisticated laboratory equipment such as Microbiology, Flow Cytometry, Automated Liquid Handling, Microscopes or other optical devices are also applicable

Position description

Maintains medical and clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan and current asset management software. Consistently demonstrates strong skills and tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of complex biomedical equipment and interconnected systems (VLAN, isolated network and Mayo network). Individuals in this position must be highly customer focused with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Individuals must have an exceptional technical skillset, comprehensive clinical knowledge and be able to work with minimal supervision on a regular basis. Also must be capable of giving in-service education for clinical and technical staff on critical medical devices and systems, and serve as a professional coach/mentor for clinical and HTM staff on an as needed basis. On-call and overtime is often required as well as travel to other Mayo Clinic sites. A Healthcare Engineering Technician 2 will typically have a degree in biomedical electronics with internship experience, or alternative degrees with more than three years of proven successful service of a diverse spectrum of medical equipment.

Qualifications

Must have one of the below:

  • Associate of Applied Science degree from a Biomedical Electronics Program.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Biomedical Engineering Technology

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, electronics, or other related technology fields and 3 years of medical equipment service experience in a healthcare environment

  • Associate Degree in electronics, electrical engineering, or related technology fields and 3 years of medical equipment service experience in a healthcare environment

Authorization to work and remain in the United States long term, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee or asylee). Additional qualifications

AAMI ACI Certification.

Knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, biology, and medical terminology

Familiarity with test tools needed to perform medical equipment maintenance

Understanding of common clinical terminology used in a hospital or clinic

Knowledge of networks, computer hardware, computer software, and computer security

Advanced level of professionalism

Hours / Pay period 80

Schedule details

Typical schedule is Monday to Friday with 8 hour shifts. Start and end times will be dictated by business need, and can vary including day shifts and swing or evening shifts. Other hours as needed by department in working with a team of Biomedical Equipment Technicians to provide 24 hour coverage of a highly complex laboratory equipment environment.

Weekend schedule

The core schedule is Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work to accommodate lab and project schedules. Participation in a rotating 24x7 on-call schedule maybe be required.
