Position description The Orthopedic Genetic Host Variation Laboratory (PI: Dr. Matthew Abdel, faculty profile: https://www.mayo.edu/research/faculty/abdel-matthew-p-m-d/bio-20085806 ) within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester is seeking a post-doctoral research fellow to join our multi-disciplinary team. The post-doctoral research fellow will work together with surgeons and scientists on identifying causes and treatment options for arthrofibrosis, a relatively common and debilitating condition following total knee arthroplasty, as well as numerous other failure mechanisms after primary and revision total hip arthroplasties and total knee arthroplasties such as aseptic loosening, polyethylene wear, osteolysis, and instability.
The preferred candidate will:
Have experience with animal models, tissue culture, molecular techniques, and/or histology
Learn and apply new methods and advancing technologies
Perform experiments, analyze results, and summarize findings
Work in a collaborative team of surgeons and scientists
Have excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
Be adaptable to change and proficient with time management
Provide feedback, troubleshoot protocols, and develop new directions
Present data at laboratory meetings and national and international conferences
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.

Proof of doctoral degree (copy of diploma or final transcript with English translation, if applicable) or a letter from your university's Registrar office indicating you have fulfilled all doctoral program requirements and are eligible to graduate.
Please also be prepared that you may be asked to provide three letters of recommendation to the hiring PI prior to an interview.
Qualifications Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
