This position is in Dr. Akhilesh Pandey's systems biology laboratory. Dr. Pandey's research in is closely aligned with initiatives within the Center for Individualized Medicine and the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.
The Pandey laboratory focuses on using mass spectrometry-based proteomics to study cancer signaling and identify therapeutic targets in various cancers. This is a new position is immediately available, and will create a unique opportunity to learn advanced multidisciplinary technologies including molecular and cellular biology, cancer biology, genomics and proteomics. Applicants are expected to have general lab administrative responsibilities and must be comfortable working with laboratory animals, blood and human tissue samples.
Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals, grant commitments, i.e. assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc. Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications. Collects, enters and summarizes data. Assists in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies. Performs basic statistical data analysis; prepares tables/charts/graphs and assists in organizing data. Presents at research laboratory meetings and contributes to writing of manuscripts. Works under supervision and may perform some assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
General lab duties such as ordering, restocking solutions, maintaining freezers and organizing lab meetings
Maintenance of tissue culture cell lines and perform in vitro cell based assays
Standard molecular biology techniques including PCR, cloning, RNA isolation, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation
Opportunities to learn and advance into more independent work including sample preparation for mass spectrometry-based proteomics
Animal work including mouse breeding, tumor xenograft, drug treatment, tumor size measuring, and immunostaining of tumor sections
Requires bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science.
Prior experience in a research laboratory is preferred.
Must exhibit a solid understanding of lab techniques, equipment, and safety. Must have the ability to organize and carry out laboratory techniques independently and in a team setting. Experience with basic data analysis is required. This position requires demonstrated writing skills.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $22.65 per hour.
