The Microscopy & Cell Analysis Core at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN is expanding its hours of operation and is seeking a motivated individual to assist with this transition. The laboratory offers expertise to collaborative projects that involve transmission and scanning electron microscopy for both research and clinical investigators. The laboratory is well equipped with four transmission, one scanning electron microscope and an FE-SEM equipped with an ultramicrotome for serial block face imaging on order. The core has a long history of excellent productivity and funding.

Position description

Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals, grant commitments, i.e. assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc. Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications. Collects, enters and summarizes data. Assists in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies. Performs basic statistical data analysis; prepares tables/charts/graphs and assists in organizing data. Presents at research laboratory meetings and contributes to writing of manuscripts. Works under supervision and may perform some assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.

The EM Technologist interacts with all laboratory users in order to accomplish specific research and clinical goals with respect to electron microscopy procedures. Duties include tissue processing, embedding and sectioning. Other responsibilities of the position involve scoping tissues on the electron microscope for ultrastructural indicators of disease and reporting to Mayo pathologists. The applicant must have excellent communicative skills and the ability to work well with a variety of personalities.

Qualifications

Requires bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science.

Additional qualifications

Must exhibit a solid understanding of lab techniques, equipment, and safety. Must have the ability to organize and carry out laboratory techniques independently and in a team setting. Experience with basic data analysis is required. This position requires demonstrated writing skills.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $22.65 per hour.
