State of Minnesota Transportation Specialist in Roseville, Minnesota
Job Duties: Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:
Verifies, records and prioritizes incoming material samples.
Performs, directs the performance or monitors the performance of all aspects of standardized and specific materials testing.
Conducts or directs difficult, non-routine tests for special studies, circumstances and investigations.
Performs calculations, generates and distributes reports providing required documentation on test processes and results.
Completes analysis and interpretation of test results to determine if additional testing is required, materials meet specifications and tolerances.
Maintains, tests and calibrates and documents materials lab equipment.
Performs technical certification program training for agency and external personnel.
Writes technical documents including work plans, data analysis outcomes, recommendations and specifications.
Participates in research projects by collecting data, analyzing and tracking pavement management data.
Conducts annual reviews of all material testers.
Reviews project plan quantities to see if they meet project minimums.
Monitors quality control, certification, procedures and products produced by those working on state projects or receiving federal funds.
Oversees materials testing operations when supervisor is absent.
Inputs and tracks test data in spreadsheets and databases.
Performs other duties as assigned
The level of experience to perform this job at the TS level can be achieved with:
- Four years of experience performing materials testing
Three years of experience performing materials testing or related activities and one (1) year of experience in roadway construction, engineering support or roadways maintenance areas
A two year Civil Technology degree or equivalent can be credited for one year of related experience.
Certification in Aggregate Production 1, Grading & Base 1, Bituminous Plant 1, Bituminous Street 1, Concrete Field 1 or ACI Field Grade 1, Concrete Plant 1 as required by Federal Highway Administration QC/QA standards.
Valid Class D driver’s license.
Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this job will vary, but may require the ability to joint lift up to 150 pounds maximum with frequent moving and/or lifting or otherwise transfer of objects of various weights. This job also may require walking, moving, standing, to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls. This job may require strenuous physical labor including but not limited to digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling and climbing.
