The primary purpose of this position is to protect the public and the environment by safely collecting and transporting these wastes to an appropriate end facility. Many of Bay West s clients generate a variety of hazardous waste. Ideal candidate must be able to perform the following responsibilities: Installs and collects environmental air sampling filters from air monitoring stations throughout the Twin Cities and delivers them to a laboratory. Collections occur 365 days of the year, which include holidays and weekends. Workday begins at 6:00 a.m. Conduct quarterly calibration and flow checks of the sample collectors Rebuilds small pump motors and services the sampling equipment as required Operate and troubleshoot routinely used tools and equipment. Drive a company vehicle and work independently for an average of 6 hours per day Assists with Ramsey County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program on Fridays and Saturdays; accepts, documents, sorts, packages, and arranges for disposal of HHW products; greets HHW customers, determines their needs, and answers HHW questions Assists in Emergency Response (ER) activities including determining ER equipment needs, loading ER equipment, and performing clean-up activities Assists in industrial services projects including tank cleanings and facility cleanings Essential Education, Training, Knowledge and Experience: Associates degree, or combination of a high school diploma and 6 months of experience is required Bachelor s Degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Geology, Geophysics, Geobiology, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, or Engineering is preferred Valid driver s license with acceptable driving record required 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (training will be provided if necessary) Essential Physical and Intellectual requirements: Mechanical aptitude required Must be a United States citizen Dependable and Detail-oriented Occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds Work environment is outside and subject to working in the elements which can include high heat, high humidity, and extreme cold Subject to a pre-employment physical and drug test and placed in random drug testing pool upon hire.
