State of Minnesota Medical Laboratory Technician 1 in St. Paul, Minnesota
This position is responsible for specimen accessioning and dangerous goods specimen shipment for the Infectious Disease Lab of the Public Health Laboratory. This position is responsible for cleaning and preparing glassware and other laboratory materials; and for decontaminating and disposing of laboratory waste.
An Associate’s Degree or higher in a biological, chemical or physical science or as a medical laboratory technician from an accredited institution.
Must have the ability to follow verbal instructions, and detailed written procedures, so the items and materials produced pass quality control.
Must have keyboarding skills and experience performing data entry.
Knowledge and understanding of safe laboratory practices sufficient to properly and safely handle hazardous chemicals and infections waste.
Knowledge of standard sterilization, decontamination and cleaning procedures for materials and equipment utilized by microbiology laboratories.
Previous work experience in a clinical laboratory.
Previous experience with incoming specimen handling, with the ability to recognize and resolve specimen problems.
Previous experience with the shipment of biological and infectious substances as dangerous goods.
Knowledge of bacteriological, viral and other infectious agents.
Previous experience with media, reagent and glassware preparation.
Requires occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds. Job may also require significant standing or walking to perform job duties.
Must successfully pass a background and reference check.
