Nova-Tech Engineering Biology Technician in Willmar, Minnesota

Nova-Tech Engineering, a leader in robotic automation within the agricultural industry, has a full-time opportunity with our Research & Development team as a Biology Technician.

The Biology Technician understands biology and health of poultry, executes experiments and will work collaboratively to provide and present results routinely to team members and stakeholders. We are seeking a talented individual who is creative, flexible, organized and able to acquire new skills and techniques within an autonomous and cross-functional team.

The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge with research methodology, strong understanding of incubation periods, poultry growth cycle, nutrition, and overall animal health.

Summary of Core Responsibilities:

  • Familiarity with general laboratory techniques such as pipetting, plating bacterial cultures, serial dilutions, aseptic technique and proper decontamination procedures

  • Adheres to system test standards guidelines and practices, monitors controls and instruments, accurately documents observations | test results, and prepares | maintains required documentation for various stakeholders.

  • Responsible for the coordination of incubation management within the research lab

  • Collaborates with team and works in Agile Scrum Framework

  • Enthusiasm for researching new solutions and solving problems in a timely and collaborative manner with cross-function teams in Engineering and Research

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with an ability to analyze technical issues and provide effective solutions

  • Provides expertise on animal health to team members and stakeholders

  • Willing to bring forth and recommend changes in test methods or equipment for engineering review.

  • Participates in Lab Continuous Improvement Projects, assists with on-going lab maintenance, and housekeeping to keep the facility in a neat, orderly condition.

  • Conducts other testing and other duties as assigned

  • Ability to put in overtime and work an extended day as necessary.

  • Must be willing and able to travel as needed.

The Ideal Candidate Skills and Experience:

  • Diploma in Biological Sciences, Animal Sciences or Veterinary Technology Degree or similar. Bachelor Degree is Preferred.

  • Able and willing to work with animals and become familiar with proper animal handling, vaccination techniques, proper euthanasia procedures and necropsy activities

  • Working knowledge of developmental biology and preferred knowledge of poultry.

  • Motivated and driven individual who is skilled in root cause analysis, problem solving and creative thinking

  • Familiarity with general laboratory techniques such as pipetting, plating bacterial cultures, serial dilutions, aseptic technique and proper decontamination procedures

  • Experience with molecular biology lab techniques

  • Technical writing experience preferred.

  • Ability to calculate, measure and dispense liquids and solids using a pipette and balance

  • Ability to work with in a cross-functional team and autonomous environment with excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Knowledge of various MS Office applications such as: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Technical writing experience preferred.

  • Conduct all business matters in a professional and ethical manner, exhibiting sound judgement, collaboration, and dedication to handle multiple deadlines.

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Ability to lift | carry up to 50 pounds

Compensation Package:
